Arches Shelter

Arches Shelter

Enniskillen is the County Town of Fermanagh, located almost exactly in the Centre of the County on the natural island which separates the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne. The overall form of the shelter is designed to be very striking and modem in its simplicity while using materials that are warm and inviting. The basic form or supports of the shelter is constructed in steel for strength and durability. These supports are covered in a bronze coloured thermoplastic which is historical and classically elegant, in fitting with the existing street environment. These supports are combined with the modern twist of the simple protruding glass roof that are lit by warm coloured LED lights located in the main structure. The result is that from a distance the coloured glass roof will appear to float. The seating within the shelter is made from natural hardwood timber to add to the creation of a warm and welcoming environment for users. The back element of the sculpture depicts the hustle and bustle of people, the corn market, toy shop, arches all referencing the history of the town and creating a talking point for viewers and users.
