Art and the pursuit of aesthetic quality have been the core of my life and motivation from an early age. After studying A level art in school, I gained my architectural degree in 1991 from Oxford Brookes University. I then completed a postgraduate in architecture in 1994 from Dundee University, during which time I spent a year at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. I then gained my professional architectural exams in 1996 from South Bank University, London.

My early career started as a successful Architect/Project Manager based in London, during this time I was sponsored by my employer to gain an MBA in 2005 in Construction & Real Estate, from Reading University. As part of my responsibilities, I was involved in commissioning and overseeing art installations for example an interactive art installation wall for EDF’s Trading UK Headquarters and the art based architectural glass wall installation for the Royal College of Nursing.

After returning to live in Northern Ireland, I focused more on pure art and gained qualifications in Ceramics, Portraiture and Printmaking. I have exhibited in Ireland and UK and have won several art awards including the Sir James Kilfedder Memorial Bursary. I specialised in ceramics, although short, is robust as a result of my architectural design background which underpins my current work. This varied design education is key to my structured approach but maintains a free, powerful and often abstract finish.

The combination of my architectural career and my art training and experience have led me to love sculpture and since 2019 I have been involved in many public sculpture schemes. I have project managed the delivery of the following: Brackfield Birds in the Faughan Valley;  ‘Art Bins’ in Great Yarmouth; Public Realm Artwork, Enniskillen and Public Art Trail in Donegal and more recently a complex but rewarding and ongoing project for Antrim Borough Council.
